 What Is Methylation Enhancer?

Methylation Enhancer by Phil Richards Performance supplies bioactive forms of four essential B-vitamins, folate, vitamin B12, B6, B2 together with betaine (also known as trimethylglycine or TMG) to synergistically support methylation processes and normalise homocysteine metabolism.  This formula is also exceptional for those with defective MTHFR genes.

Phil formulated Methylation Enhancer after extensive research on how to reduce high homocysteine levels which I was seeing in the vast majority of my clients after observing their blood chemistry analysis results.

What is Homocysteine?

Homocysteine is a specific type of amino acid that’s created in the body during metabolic processes, as opposed to consumed in food. It’s produced in the body as a by-product of methylation, the process of producing an essential amino acid called methionine. In healthy people, homocysteine is transformed into a benign product that keeps levels maintained, but when homocysteine isn’t properly metabolized it builds up inside the body and acts similarly to a toxin. This causes inflammation to rise and creates more by-products that cause changes in cardiovascular, neurological and endocrine systems.

Methylation Enhancer is also crucial for methylation.  So what is methylation? The definition of Methylation is "the addition of a single carbon and three hydrogen atoms to another molecule. This is called a methyl group. The removal of a methyl group is called demethylation".

I think of it as billions of little on/off switches inside your body that control everything from your stress response and how your body makes energy from food, to your brain chemistry and detoxification.

Methyl groups are involved with:

  • The stress (fight-or-flight) response
  • The production and recycling of glutathione — the body's master antioxidant
  • The detoxification of hormones, chemicals and heavy metals
  • The inflammation response
  • Genetic expression and the repair of DNA
  • Neurotransmitters and the balancing of brain chemistry
  • Energy production
  • The repair of cells damaged by free radicals
  • The immune response, controlling T-cell production, fighting infections and viruses and regulating the immune response

If you have a shortage of methyl groups, or your methylation cycle is interrupted, any or all of these processes can become compromised.

Methylation and glutathione. Improving methylation is important for everyone. One of the reasons is the role of methylation in the production and recycling of glutathione the body’s master antioxidant. Glutathione directly neutralizes free radicals, reduces inflammation and assists in the role of other antioxidants like vitamin C, E and lipoic acid.

Quote......"Glutathione contains sulfur groups, which are sticky compounds that adhere to toxins and heavy metals and carry them out of the body. This is a good thing and you want lots of it! I haven't met anyone (including me) with any type of autoimmune condition that has adequate methylation and levels of glutathione".....Phil Richards
